A BIT ABOUT PUKETITI STATION…

Puketiti is an iconic 3572ha, 18,000su East Coast farming operation, proudly fourth generation owned and an integral part of the local community. The station is nestled under Puketiti Hill, which stands at 2000 feet and is a prominent landmark visible from anywhere in the district. Puketiti runs 8.1su/ha, which is a 47% sheep and 53% cattle split. There are 1847 cattle including 700 breeding cows along with 9000 ewes, including 7000MA ewes and replacements. The owners are fully immersed in developing the property to a higher level. They are implementing a strategic environmental plan for the property and have introduced a high level of infrastructure with fencing, laneways, new covered yards and farm buildings.

THE OPPORTUNITY…

The Station Manager will be responsible for the planning, management and day-to-day running of the farm. Foremost, they will need a high level of stockmanship, along with a modern thought process and be keen to drive animal production and pasture management to optimise the feed supply demand and profitability on this farming operation.

The appointee will be working closely with the Station’s Stock Agent and Supervisor with the marketing and buying of stock, including sourcing of stud stock. The current Station Manager is stepping back and will support this role in a Block Manager capacity as an interim support measure. There is a strong team culture and high level of employee loyalty at Puketiti Station, therefore the Station Manager will need to bring strong leadership and management capability.

A BIT ABOUT YOU…

Alongside having previous management experience, and being a hardworking individual who is willing to understand, contribute and buy in to the Stations aspirations and plans, the successful applicant will have:

  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of farming
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • A keen interest and ability in utilising technology and modern systems
  • A team of 6 well-managed station dogs (can have more)
  • Horse riding experience, as horses are used for approximately 70 % of the mustering.
  • Staff management and HR knowledge
