A BIT ABOUT TE ARATIPI STATION…
Te Aratipi Station is owned by the Palmer family and has been in the family for over 100 years. It is a traditional sheep and beef breeding and finishing property, running 5100 Romney ewes (plus replacements) and 350 Angus breeding cows.
The 1222ha property is located at the top of Maraetotara, 350-600m above sea level, located just 10 minutes from one of Hawke’s Bay’s best beaches, Waimarama.
As the Experienced Shepherd you will be working with the Farm Owner in all aspects relating to the day-to-day running of the property, with your key responsibility being stock and yard work. You will liaise with the Farm Owner to plan your workload.
The property is semi-intensive; in this role you will be shifting large mobs with some tricky spots i.e. creeks and bridges requiring you to have a high level of stock sense. You will need a good team of 6 working dogs experienced with mustering larger mobs of ewes and lambs. The ewes are on a pre-set rotation, then set stocked pre lambing.
The property has been well maintained, however during the off season there will be some general R & M work to be completed.
