Job Description


Ohinewairua Station is a 7500ha station, situated on the Napier-Taihape Road in the Central North Island and is owned by longstanding family shareholders. This well-developed breeding and finishing farming business is running sheep, beef and deer.  The property has excellent infrastructure throughout the property and good farming systems and cropping plans in place.

Ohinewairua Station is situated in the Moawhango district; with a strong rural community and plenty of social happenings.


 As a Shepherd you will be working within a team completing all the day to day stock work including mustering, stock shifts, yard work, animal health and handpiece work.

Mustering is done on quads and side-by-sides, with the opportunity to use horses at certain times of the year. This role will give you the opportunity to be supported in a team environment and also work autonomously.


Management offers support and provides a degree of flexibility towards their employee’s entry point into the business.  This shepherding role will be mainly stock work focussed and will offer you the opportunity to work in the team with mustering large mobs and will require:

  • A first-class attitude to health and safety and animal welfare.
  • The ability to work independently and have a proven track record of working well in a team environment.
  • A good level of stockmanship
  • A team of 2-6 working dogs (depending on experience)
  • A great work ethic and keenness to learn
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work weekends, public holidays during seasonal demand.


This is a fully found position and comes with a warm tidy single quarter’s accommodation. The appointee has the opportunity to work in a positive, larger team environment. The current Station Manager is placing an emphasis on developing the whole team, this includes the new Station Cook, with reviews on her cooking as being excellent.
