Job Description

We are a high performing piggery running indoor breeder and finisher operation, based near Foxton seeking a highly skilled experienced senior pig stockperson to join our team to manage and be responsible for the Breeding Unit of our piggery.

Reporting to and working alongside the Farm Manager to meet and maintain targets whilst maintaining herd welfare. Duties will include being fully responsible for the pigs within the breeding unit, AI, sow/boar health management, maintaining our high standards of animal health and welfare of stock; monitoring the condition, monitor growth and health, immunise, and treat as required, feed mill production, administrative tasks such as record keeping, stock taking, ordering, and updating data.  This is not an entry level position proven piggery breeding experience essential.

The management of our piggery works as an effective team over the four units of production and on a fortnightly roster which includes work every other weekend. You would need to be committed to maintaining the high health status of the herd by having no contact with any other pigs, domestic or wild, and any pig material whilst in our employment.  This is a physically demanding job with lifting and carrying required; you must be fit for the duties required.

We are looking for someone:

  • with solid piggery experience, ideally backed with level 5 or 6 qualifications in Agriculture/Animal Science and Pig Husbandry,
  • proven breeding experience and knowledge including Artificial Insemination and confident in all aspects of piggery production/departments,
  • with proven stock observation skills, and be able to inspect condition, identify health issues of animals, action improvement and be calm with stock.
  • with solid maths and literacy essential
  • who has a flexible approach to work and working as a team.
  • responsible, reliable, honest, self-motivated, good communication skills with a sound employment record.
