Senior Shepherd Position

Glenburn station is located on the east coast of the Wairarapa, a sixty minute drive from Masterton.  Glenburn is a unique coastal station with hunting, diving and fishing.  It is a family owned sheep and beef farm 2830ha in size running 20,000 stock units.  Glenburn winters 6,750 breeding ewes, 535 breeding cows and 60 hinds.  The property finishes approximately half of its steers and 80% of its lambs. 

This job is 90% stock work and 10% general farm work.  Working at Glenburn will give you all round experience dealing with cattle, sheep and deer.  The successful applicants will learn a variety of management techniques related to the semi intensive finishing system and the extensive breeding operation.  We encourage personal development and Ag ITO qualifications are optional. Our goal when employing staff is to build confidence and knowledge so they can take on a higher level of responsibility either within the family business or with their next employer.

The applicants ideally has a minimum of three working dogs under good command which will be required to handle large mobs of stock in big paddock situations.

This is an opportunity to work in a strong team environment with three other full time staff that shares a passion for the red meat sector.  The dwelling is a shared house with our other shepherd.  Remuneration will depend on experience.
