Locks Well Pastoral is a fourth generation, family-owned livestock enterprise —operating since 1911. Their popular brand, Fresh Eyre Merino, focuses on producing high-quality Merino wool. The property covers 8,000 ha and stocks 10,000 Merinos.
Position
Locks Well Pastoral is seeking an energetic, experienced Farm Manager with a high-performance farming history and a passion for Merinos. This is an exciting career development opportunity to transition a successful historical family farm into a leading and growing sustainable agribusiness.
The Farm Manager will be the key figure for delivering high quality Merino wool (RWS accredited) and lamb, and implementing productivity improvement initiatives, such as the introduction of new technology for efficient farm management.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Planning, budgeting and implementing growth initiatives for the sustainable growth of the business
- Introducing effective, performance improvement farm management techniques including pasture improvement and rotational grazing
- Undertake and monitor all livestock related tasks, including stock monitoring, mustering, moving mobs, lamb marking, drenching, crutching & shearing
- Monitor stock & assess feed availability, access to water, fencing condition & respond appropriately
- Involvement with all aspects of the cropping operation, including sowing, monitoring & harvesting
- Managing and communicating with all workers and contractors on property
- Maintain & improve infrastructure on the property including, water infrastructure, fencing and yards, sheds, machinery & equipment
- Operate machinery in a safe manner, complying with relevant WHS legislation
What You’ll Need
- Experience in a similar role with a focus on sheep husbandry
- Proactive team leadership skills with the ability to establish & work within an established farm plan & report on operational issues
- Knowledge of modern farming/grazing/livestock management practices
- Strong observation skills & attention to detail
- Ability to work & supply own stock dogs (desirable)
- Relevant experience in the use of farm management software (such as AgriWebb) & computer systems
- Mechanical aptitude, demonstrated experience in machinery operation & general maintenance
- Current unrestricted Driver’s License
- Accredited Firearms License
Bonus Qualifications That Are Desirable
- Heavy Combination (HC) truck license
- Qualifications relating to agriculture or farm management
- Current ChemCert qualifications
- First Aid training
