About the business
This family owned and run business is 20 minutes from Otorohanga and Te Awamutu in the Waikato. The business is a blend of dairy and beef, with beef X calves being reared on farm and taken through to finishing.
Dairy heifers are moved to the dairy support unit at weaning and carried through to in calf heifers that go back into the herds at the start of the dairy season.
The aim of the game is to ensure animals are well grown for the beef market, or in peak condition when returning to the dairy unit for calving and hopefully a long, productive life in the dairy herd.
About the role
This person will be responsible for a total of 1,300 beef and dairy replacement animals across 400 hectares of rolling country. Break fencing is a major part of the role and so applicants will be physically fit.
Grass silage is fed as supplement, so applicants will be confident and capable operating a tractor and a feed out wagon, and have excellent pasture management and feed budgeting skills.
This person will be responsible for ensuring animals are well fed and in good health, so applicants will be detail oriented and have very good knowledge of animal health.
This role is responsible for ensuring the rest of the drystock team have full and busy days with set tasks given and support offered where required.
This role is responsible for reactive and capital maintenance so a good understanding of power, water systems, fences and use of heavy machinery is required.
This person works closely with the dairy team so applicants need to be open minded, approachable and happy to take a collaborative approach to the overall running of the business.

Is a three bedroom house with new bathroom, kitchen, paint and carpet. The house is insulated with a heat pump. Salary will be based on experience.
