A BIT ABOUT I & P FARMING – BRAEMER FARM…

Braemar Farm is a family-owned 300ha property, located just 10 minutes from Waipukurau. Lamb and beef finishing is the core income for the business and cash crops add an additional income source to the farming operation.

This is a progressive farming operation and utilises flexible farming policies. Braemar Farm has the ability to capture seasonal opportunities resulting in financial gains. There is excellent infrastructure in place to support the farming system.

THE OPPORTUNITY…

The Farm Manager will be responsible for the planning, management and day-to-day operations on this property. This is a hands-on role with a focus to maintain and improve the outputs of this already high-performing business.

Braemar Farm incorporates both fodder and cash crops into the farming system. The crop management would involve planning and preparation for the cash crops (maize, peas and squash) as well as liaising with all contractors.

There would be an approximate 50:50 split between stock and crop management, you will need to be experienced and agile with the management of cropping and stocking. There are certain times of the year when it is extremely busy, and you will need to be well organised to be able to capture the seasonal opportunities that may arise.

A BIT ABOUT YOU…

We are looking for a strategic Farm Manager to further drive this property's production. The ideal applicant will come with a proven track record in stock and crop management, a team of 3 – 4 working dogs and the following:

  • Stock management experience – buying and selling, finishing lambs, bulls and steers and strong animal health knowledge.
  • Excellent pasture management and ability to maintain and implement grass renewal programmes. Understanding of cropping requirements; fodder and cash crops.
  • General skills; keeping fences, yards and buildings in good repair. Mechanical skills would be advantageous.
  • Sound understanding of all compliance areas, including soil conservation and environmental aspects.
  • Well organised, structured approach with strong attention to detail particularly with written documentation and good competency with computer skills.
  • High level of communication skills with owners, contractors and farm suppliers.
