Job Description

Pareroa Partnership is a family-owned farming operation based in Central Hawke’s Bay. The Partnership is made up of 3 farms totalling 851ha; they have a coastal breeding block (Pareroa) and then two smaller finishing properties close to Waipawa (Waitiro & Tournaham).

This is an inclusive farming environment where everyone works together to help during the busier times of the year.

As the Shepherd General, you will work closely with the owner to manage the day-to-day operation of the finishing block.

This is a mainly grass-based system, however, there is 15ha of green feed crops, such as oats and a chicory/clover mix, that will require you to have a good understanding of feed and pasture management. The role offers a nice variety in your day-to-day work, so it is essential you come with a good level of general skills such as R&M fencing, handpiece (crutching/dagging) and water reticulation.

The ideal applicant will bring their excellent communication skills and great sense of humour, along with the following:

•                    Excellent stockmanship, with a small well-controlled team of 3 working dogs.

•                    Strong feed and pasture management

• Well-organised self-starter, with high attention to detail

•                    Finishing knowledge and experience, with a drive to learn more.

•                    A full current driver’s licence

The Shepherd General roles remuneration package includes a tidy and warm, recently renovated, 3-bedroom home. There is excellent room for career development in this role, with the opportunity for the right candidate to prove themselves and grow into a management position. The farm is located on Ongaonga road, 5 minutes from Waipukarau and Waipawa, and an easy 30-minute drive to Hastings.
