Job Description

General Farmhand/Shepherd, Raglan

A full time General position is available on Hillersden, a 1350 ha hill country, sheep and beef breeding and finishing farm, approximately 35km to Hamilton and 10km to Raglan, with a short 5 min drive to local store, high school bus route and local primary school.

The job involves a variety of different tasks including maintenance of 8 wire fences, cattle & sheep yards, 2 wire electric fences & water systems, docking, crutching, shearing, calf marking, drenching cattle & lambs, spraying thistles and gorse, tractor & chainsaw work, feeding out, polywiring, shifting cattle in fattening systems, pest control, new fencing and stock yards projects, stockwork.

The roster is 5 days a week and also being on duty every third weekend. This involves shifting/checking fattening stock & any other necessary jobs that need doing, usually taking 2-4 hours each morning over the weekend. Because of this responsibility a working dog or two would be needed.

1-2 working dogs

Excellent communication, organisation, and record keeping skills.

Strong awareness of health and safety in the workplace.

Good level of personal fitness.

Ability to work as part of a team but also be independent and happy to work alone & unsupervised.

NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

Full NZ Drivers licence.
