A BIT ABOUT PENTWYN FARMS…
Pentwyn Farms is a 1200ha family owned sheep and beef operation, located in the hills close to the Desert Road near Waiouru. Pentwyn Farms has been under the current ownership for more than 40 years and has good infrastructure and systems that work for this property. They are currently running breeding ewes, finishing lambs, bulls, steers and heifers, and also have 141ha of cropping – both forage and cash.
The Owner’s also run a contracting business, with 9 John Deere tractors ranging from 70 – 400 hp. They support surrounding farms with full cultivation, direct drilling, hay and baleage, where the contour ranges from flat to very steep.
There is now an opportunity for an Agricultural Tractor Operator to join the team in either a seasonal position or in a full-time capacity. Pentwyn Farms are willing to invest in career development and for the right person there is a potential pathway into a more senior position. You will work both alongside the Owner and autonomously at times.
From September to May the contracting work will take priority. During winter, there will be general tractor maintenance in a well-equipped workshop, feeding out and digger work.
A BIT ABOUT YOU…
You will need to show a high level of respect with the farm equipment and Pentwyn’s Farms’ clients and their properties and be able to follow instructions and perform tasks to a high standard. Alongside a passion for agriculture and a willingness to learn, you will have:
· Competent tractor skills and experience operating on hills would be advantageous.
· Competent and confident with machinery and tractor maintenance.
· Good communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to build rapport with a wide range of customers.
· Be able to work unsupervised and safely with a strong knowledge of health & safety.
· Have a full drivers licence.
· Be flexible with hours worked and a team player.
There is an excellent remuneration package on offer, accommodation is provided either in single or family accommodation dependent on your personal situation, just 10 minutes from Waiouru and 20 minutes from Taihape. There are plenty of recreational sports and activities such as tennis, squash, and golf within a few minutes’ drive, as well as hunting, river fishing and lake sports based in Turangi.
There is a school bus 4km away to the local secondary and primary schools, or there are boarding options available nearby.
