Job Description


Waitaha is a 1,502ha coastal hill country station, located 1 hour 10 minutes north of Napier and currently running around 15,000 stock units. This is an iconic property consistently achieving good levels of livestock performance.  With open, and in parts, steep hill country it is a well-tracked farm with paddocks all accessible by side by side. The farm is continually developing, using modern cropping and recording techniques.


Waitaha are currently looking for a General Farm Hand, whose duties will include; maintenance of the fences, stockyards and some of the property facilities. At times you will be required to do some stock work (yard work, crutching, docking, shearing, weaning and drenching) and other general farm maintenance such as weed control (as part of the team).

The successful applicant will be often working alone but will sometimes be working with the Manager and/or the Shepherd.


Along with a passion for the industry and an interest in the continual development of the farm, the successful applicant will:

·         Be honest, reliable and have strong communication skills.

·         Have a high level of fencing skills.

·         Have some stock handling experience and tractor driving skills.

·         Come with some experience on hill country and an understanding of health & safety (when riding side by sides, the appointee will have good judgement to know when to get off and walk around the steeper country).

·         Be competent in general daily machinery maintenance.

·         Have a full NZ driver’s licence.
