Wellington Farms Ltd is a 720ha family-owned farming operation based 20 minutes south of Te Awamutu in the Waikato region. The property is well-resourced with excellent infrastructure, including well-developed laneways and tracks. The Owner’s take great pride in their asset.

This is an intensive farming business running 10,500su in total. The focus is on a mix of 3300 deer with 560 dairy grazers and 400 sheep to complement the overall business.

Reporting directly to the owner, this Stockman General position offers plenty of opportunity to take on increased responsibility over time and further develop their farming skills in a variety of areas. There will be split 50:50 stock work to general work.

The Stockman General will oversee the daily management of the dairy grazers and sheep and work alongside the owner to assist with the deer. The dairy grazers are on a weight gain system, requiring the Stockman General to have strong pasture management skills and the ability to pick up quickly on any animal health issues. The deer are a key aspect of the farming operation, as such the owner will provide mentorship in the deer shed and help the Stockman General to develop their skills and confidence when working with hinds and stags.

General work will include general R&M of fences (conventional, deer and electric fencing), tractor work such as feeding out, and maintenance around the farm, i.e. spraying weeds.

For the right applicant there will be the opportunity to build leadership skills and take on part responsibility for the two general hands; guiding them to increase their on-farm skills.
