WHERE

Kiloran is an intergenerational family-owned farming business situated between Elsthorpe and Omakere, in Central Hawke’s Bay. The family have recently implemented their succession plan and Kiloran is now under the governance of the next generation who are excited to take the property into the future.

This classic 667ha (642ha effective) rolling to steeper hill country property has some 50 paddocks (plus holding paddocks) with conventional fencing throughout. There is the opportunity to work with the motivated Owners to modernise the farming business through systems, technologies, pasture/crops, and paddock subdivision. There is a flexible cropping policy in place, around 22ha of plantain, within the current grazing system allowing for seasonal weather requirements.

WHAT

The Farm Manager of Kiloran will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the property and will report directly to the lessee’s representative, who lives off-farm.  You will be responsible for developing and recommending the annual business plan and budget and will have the authority necessary to implement that plan after it has been approved. If required, support will be provided to you to ensure the plan and budget align with the Owner’s expectations.

As the Farm Manager you will be the first point of contact for farm services such as the stock agents, vets, shearers, trucks, planters, spray contractors and so on. Likewise, Health and Safety inductions and recording of these contractors on farm is a further responsibility, alongside regular machinery services and checks. A sound level of financial competency is required as you will work with the lessee’s representative to create and own the budget and the resulting profit & loss.

WHO

Our client is looking for a Farm Manager who has a genuine desire to be on the land with a passion and interest in producing prime product from the property. The Farm Manager will possess excellent traditional farming fundamentals and come with a capable team of 4-6 working dogs.  The below are also key to success in this role:

+        Proven operational management of stock.

+        Clear and efficient planning abilities.

+        Capability across general skills - fencing, water reticulation and weed/pest control.

+        Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

+        Understands the principals of pasture management.

+        High animal health and treatment knowledge.

+        Ability to oversee contractors /casuals.

+        Computer literacy – Farm Focus for budgeting, spreadsheets and google drive and stock recs.

+        Financial competency understanding budgets and monthly cashflows.

+        Being responsible for Health & Safety and maintaining accurate records.

+        Ensuring all compliance and Farm Environmental Management Plans meet regulation requirements.

+        Current full driver’s licence & firearms licence.
