Experienced Shepherd Position
Twizel South Canterbury
We are looking for an Experienced Shepherd to join the team at our family run High Country property, Located 40min from Twizel on the north east side of Lake Ohau
Glen Lyon is a 32,000ha extensive run breeding operation running approximately 14,000 stock units of Merino and ¼ Bred Ewes, Wethers and Hereford and Hereford/angus cross Cattle.
We are seeking an experienced shepherd to join our small team. This job will be a great opportunity for the right applicant to further their skills.
In the past 6 seasons we have had 6 experienced shepherds move on to take stock management roles. Our ideal candidate will be looking for a job that will help them develop their stockmanship and team skills, learn about implementing an animal health program, managing pasture and feed budgeting.
The Ideal candidate will have:
· 4+ years’ experience working with sheep and beef in New Zealand
· A team of competent dogs (at least 2 heading, 2 huntaway, will feed up to 2 unbroken)
· Interest in fine wool and beef cattle
· Good level of hill fitness and experience mustering on hill country
· Positive attitude and strong work ethic
· Good communication skills
· Ability to work both within a team and alone, unsupervised
· Current Full NZ Drivers License
· A New Zealand residency or a current New Zealand working visa
