WHERE

Puke Te Station is a family-owned farming business, located just ten minutes from Masterton and is part of a larger farming operation, Totaranui Angus. This 1600ha block is split into two 800ha blocks, most of the work will be done on one block.

Puke Te is a high performing sheep and beef breeding and finishing property and offers a mix of flat through to steep hill country. They have well established farming policies and complete all their own ag work.       

WHAT

Puke Te Station are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Shepherd to work alongside the Block Manager, the majority of your work will be completed on the 800ha Puke Te block, on occasion you may be required to help on other blocks within the Totaranui farming business. The role will offer a variety of work, 70:30 mix of stock to general work, with a key focus on finishing prime stock and managing breeding stock.

You will need to have a strong level of stockmanship and a well-controlled team of 3 working dogs. Ideally, you will be able to work autonomously or as part of the team.

Puke Te are looking for a positive self-starter, someone who is keen to learn and gain some responsibility. You will also need good attention to detail and take a high level of pride in your work.

As there will be some tractor work, some previous experience operating a tractor would be beneficial.

WHO

Our client is looking for a Shepherd who is a positive self-starter and keen to learn and gain some responsibility. The below are also key to success in this role:

  • Stockmanship – 3 main dogs, (depending on applicant) mustering, yard work.
  • Ability to handle larger mobs of sheep and cattle.
  • Good level of stockmanship and animal health skills.
  • Highly motivated and have good time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and tidiness.
  • General skills such as handpiece, fencing and tractor experience.
  • Be physically fit.
  • At least a Restricted Driver’s Licence.
