Dynamic General Farm Hand

Mairoa Dairies, known for its innovative approach in the dairy industry and stock trading business has been featured on Country Calendar and is looking for a proactive General Farm Hand to support our diverse operations across multiple lease farms. With farms located in Taharua (400 ha), Atiamuri (220 ha), and Mangakino (100 ha), they manage a significant livestock portfolio including Service Bulls, Empty Carryover Cows, Beef Weaner Calves, and Store Lambs, trading in stock is a passion of theirs. This role is crucial in assisting our large-scale dairy and livestock operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effective management and care of a wide range of livestock, regularly weighing stock and implementing animal health plans for all stock on farm.
• Have a passion for a grass-based feeding systems, with an understanding of winter cropping of Swedes and Kale.
• Proficient in technology and recording of data into MINDA, weigh programs and NAIT compliance. You will be assisting in trading of stock, so will need to be knowing the animals growth rates and organising with the employer when animals are due to be sold.
• Assisting with the Dairy Farming operation, feeding out on feed pads and general farm duties, including unloading supplies and equipment maintenance.

Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience in livestock handling and farm management, showing that you are a motivated self-starter, whom has an eye for detail and takes pride in their work environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team, know how to work hard but have a good time.
• Driven, with a commitment to quality and safety in all aspects of farm operations. We are motivated by performance, outlining KPI’s to work towards is something we will do with you.
• Has a mechanical mind, that is competent in operating various machinery and can have a “fix it” mentality, both with farm maintenance and gear.

Location Specifics:

Taharua: Includes a significant drystock operation and dairy support, housed at a well-equipped farm with multiple sheds and advanced machinery. Atiamuri: Features excellent facilities including a woolshed and comprehensive cattle yards. Mangakino: A more low-maintenance operation, perfect for self-sufficient individuals.
