WHERE
Moeraki Station is a 3,300ha (2,000 ha effective) property set within the stunning Hinakura Valley in Southern Wairarapa, 30 minutes from Martinborough and 50 minutes from Masterton. This 5th generation farming business has proudly been in the Cameron family for over 150 years, dating back to 1898. To further support the farming operation, the business leases an additional 3 properties - 300ha nearby, 130ha on the boundary of Martinborough and 90ha close to Upper Hutt.
The property is well-resourced and has very good infrastructure that has been invested in over the years. The farm tracks are well-maintained and as well as being fit for purpose for the farming business they are also suitable for the guests staying at Moeraki Station’s Holiday House to hike and mountain bike on.
Moeraki Station is a diverse farming operation with contour ranging from extensive hill country through to intensive flats. Policies include sheep and cattle breeding and finishing, trade stock, and cash and feed crops.
WHAT
Due to the current employee departing to go farming in his own right, the owners of Moeraki Station are looking to appoint a new Farm Manager for their large-scale home property utilised as a breeding and finishing block, and for the 3 lease blocks that are used for a mix of cropping and finishing as part of the farming operation. The owners will support their new manager with regular farm catch ups, and they are happy to share their knowledge of the farm to help with planning decisions.
As the Farm Manager you will be fully responsible for the day-to-day management of the farming business. You will need a team of 6 working dogs a strong level of stockmanship and a sound knowledge of animal health identification and treatment.
Alongside the stock management you will be organising the feed budgeting and grazing plans as well as working with the farm owner to plan crops and organise contractors, such as shearers and suppliers. There is a small team of staff that you will also be responsible for organising and delegating tasks to utilise their strengths.

WHO
As well as a strong understanding of managing a breeding operation, some finishing experience would be beneficial as Moeraki Station finish all their own stock and some brought in stock with the utilisation of crops and good pasture management. The below are also key to success in this role:
