Sheerwater Farm is an award-winning 270ha property located on the beautiful South Head of
the Kaipara Peninsula, 1 hour northwest of Auckland and 25 minutes from Helensville. The farm currently carries 450 hinds and their progeny, 400 velvet stags and some cattle
(numbers differ according to spring feed supply).
Sheerwater has spent three decades selectively breeding premium deer bloodlines ensuring
exceptional performance. The property has undergone significant development over the last 34 years, and now provides excellent infrastructure, pastures, fertility and a deep commitment to conservation and sustainable land development.
Our clients seek an experienced deer farm manager to continue the performance and
achievements of Sheerwater into the future.
The successful applicant will have the following key attributes -
- Proven experience in deer farming, including velveting and venison production.
- The ability to complete farm tasks to a high standard that aligns with the farm plan in an
efficient and timely manner.
- Experience with the management of cattle & deer along with the knowledge required to
manage feeding levels both pasture & supplement and adjust were necessary.
- A good understanding & knowledge of animal health and routine tasks relating to this i.e.
drenching, vaccinating etc.
- Has the ability to maintain excellent farm records.
- An understanding of farm environment plans and a strong interest in conservation and
sustainable farming practices.
- A well-rounded understanding of health and safety and the ability to demonstrate the
importance of this in a working farm environment.
- The knowledge and skills to carry out required repairs and maintenance on vehicles, farm
machinery, fencing, water reticulation.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to farm operations with a passion for innovation.
- Establish a good working relationship with the farm owners to make good management
decisions that will maintain productivity and animal performance.
- Demonstrate leadership, problem solving and most importantly communication with staff
and contractors.
- Relevant qualifications in agriculture, farm management or animal science preferred but not
essential.
- The right attitude towards farm performance, presentation, and relationships with all involved.
