WHERE

Maranoa (350 ha, Takapau) and Totara Ridge (300 ha, Tikokino) together form a 650 ha mixed farming business in Central Hawke’s Bay. The farms run premium red deer herds, a small mob of Arapawa sheep and around 400 trade steers.

With a strong focus on genetic excellence, the business uses artificial insemination (AI) and embryo transfer (ET), and natural mating within a progressive breeding programme. Over recent years, there has been significant investment in infrastructure and machinery, this has supported efficiency, innovation, and growth across both properties.

WHAT

This Deer Farm Assistant role supports both high-performing farms in Central Hawke’s Bay. It’s a hands-on position with exposure to all areas of the farming operation, offering plenty of variety and opportunities to develop your skills.

While previous experience working with deer would be an advantage, it’s not essential. The role includes a mix of stock work and general farm duties such as machinery operation, maintenance, and other day-to-day tasks. You’ll need to have one to two well-controlled working dogs to assist with livestock work.

This is a diverse role where you’ll contribute to productivity, animal health, and overall operational efficiency, from assisting with velveting to operating cultivation equipment and everything in between, no two days will be the same.
