Head shepherd

A head shepherd position has become available on our 700ha property in Omakau. Our farm offers a great working environment, plenty of opportunity to learn new skills and the potential to move into a stock manger roll.

This is a full-time position, starting the beginning of January 2026.

We are a family owned and operated farm. We farm ewes,  hoggets, finish lambs and beef cattle, graze young dairy stock and have over 200ha of arable.

The property is well maintained with pivot and Kline irrigation, state of the art cattle yards and sheep facilities, near new tractors, side by side, quad bikes and modern implements.

Omakau and the surrounding areas offer access to great outdoor activities including lakes, hunting, fishing, 4wheel driving, a variety of local sports clubs, biking and walking trails.

The successful applicant will -
•  Have two to four working dogs under good command.
•  Have the ability to work independently and also as part of a team.
•  Have the ability to follow instructions and have good communication skills.
•  Have an excellent and respectful approach to health and safety.
•  Have excellent stock handling skills and the ability to look after machinery.
•  Hold a NZ working VISA or have NZ residency.
