Job Description

Due to a change in staff structure, we are looking for a high end Stock Manager to join the team at Brookwood Station. This is a newly created role. 

Brookwood is a flat to medium hill contoured 1255Ha sheep and beef breeding/finishing property located at Takapau in Central Hawkes Bay.
Policies on Brookwood include:

  • 230 cow Angus stud with an annual on-farm bull sale;
  • 1300 breeding ewes;
  • finishing 800-1000 cattle annually;
  • finishing 5-10,000 lambs annually;
  • 300 dairy heifer grazers;
  • 60-100Ha barley, 60Ha peas, 12Ha maize, 50-100Ha brassicas, 45Ha plantain

Reporting to the farm owner, you will be responsible for managing stock and pasture performance. You will need to be regarded as a very good stockperson with experience in feed budgeting and record keeping.
It is important the appointee has high standards with the ability to effectively implement management policies and plans.

You will need to have a minimum of 3 years drystock/sheep & beef farm working experience. You will need a minimum of 3 working dogs and a maximum number will be put in place.

This position would suit someone driven and keen to further themselves in the agricultural industry. Brookwood regards itself as a high performance property and you will be part of a very functional and productive team.

A four bedroom house is available within 3km of Takapau Primary School and secondary school bus 3km away in the centre of Takapau.

Other staff on Brookwood include an Operations Manager , who is responsible for cropping, tractor, truck and machinery work and a Part-Time Shepherd General. It is expected that you often assist each other to undertake some work tasks as a team.

However, you will need to clearly show a very high level of self motivation, willingness to push the boundaries and a strong and efficient work ethic. Other skills that will be required for this role include but are not limited to:

  • strong communication skills between owner, colleagues and outside parties;
  • fence maintenance with a particular emphasis on electric fences;
  • good computer skills;
  • chainsaw, handpiece & tractor driving skills.
