We are a high performing piggery running indoor grower and finisher operation, seeking a highly skilled experienced senior pig stockperson to join our small motivated team managing and responsible for the farrowing, nursery, and weaner unit.
Reporting to and working alongside the Farm Manager to meet and maintain targets whilst maintaining herd welfare. You will be confident in all aspects of piggery production, with at least 4 years’ experience of working in and 2 years senior or managing a piggery department. With experience of feed mill production, stock taking, ordering, and updating data, whilst maintaining the high standards of animal health and welfare within our unit for both stock and staff.
Essential skills: Experience of dealing with large livestock in a production environment, including at least 4 years pig production and sow management. With solid piggery experience, backed with level 5 or 6 qualifications in Agriculture and Pig Husbandry, you will have proven stock observation skills, and be able to inspect condition, identify health issues of animals, action improvement. Solid maths and literacy essential. Forklift and or tractor driving experience would be useful, although can be trained. A team player with drive to manage this area of the unit. Responsible, reliable, honest, self-motivated, good communication skills and not afraid of hard work with a sound employment record.
The management of the piggery works as a team and on a fortnightly roster which includes work every other weekend. This position requires that you have your own accommodation and transport. You would need to be committed to maintaining the high health status of the herd by having no contact with any other pigs, domestic or wild, and any pig material whilst in our employment.
This is a physically demanding job with lifting and carrying required; you must be fit for the duties required. The successful applicant for this position will be required to pass a drug test and police background check.
