Job Description

Locmaria Farms is a prime lamb producer based 25kms from Naracoorte, South Australia on the South Australian/Victorian Border.  We value our people and safety is Locmaria Farms highest business priority.  We are an organisation that challenges prevailing assumptions and are driven by science-based research. 

Established in 2014, Locmaria Farms  sustainably grazes 1700 Ha, including 130 Ha of pivot and Lateral irrigation, under a rotational cell grazing system. Over the next 4 years the current 13,000 merino/ first cross ewes will simultaneously be grown to 25 000 ewes and converted to a self-replacing Primeline composite flock.

The role forms part of the operation team which reports to the General Manager.

Our operations team currently consists of between 8 and 10 people with various skills and experience.

The opportunity to gain experience working under our General Manager who after completing a Bachelor of Animal Science in 2010 has worked within the Livestock industry in the consulting space with extensive experience in livestock management, disease prevention, nutrition, pasture management and lecturing/producer training through accredited courses such as Lifetime Ewe management.

Working with our Manager-Animal Health and Grazing, who is an extremely experienced livestock veterinarian. She has a passion for science and innovation and is passionate about animal health and the implementation of sustainable grazing practice.

Skills and experience

Essential requirements:

  • Previous farm hand experience
  • Experience and knowledge of working with livestock- Sheep
  • Driver's licence

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of rotational cell grazing
  • Tertiary agriculture qualification
  • Knowledge and experience working with pivot irrigation
  • Forklift and Heavy Vehicle licences
  • Chemical handling certification
