Job Description
Ouepoto is a highly productive 1,000 ha eff. Hill country Coastal Station
Located 30 minutes east of Waipawa, situated on the Pacific Coast, great for its fishing, hunting and diving opportunities.
This family owned hill country station is a sheep and beef, breeding and finishing operation, wintering approximately 9,000su comprising 60% sheep and 40% cattle.
This position provides plenty of variety and is a great opportunity for someone with a minimum of 2 years full time sheep and beef experience.
The successful applicant will:
- Be honest, reliable and have strong communication skills,
- Show interest in all aspects of farming, stock work, pasture management and maintenance
- Ideally have 2 - 3 working dogs under good command
- Experience on steep hill country and an understanding of health & safety (when riding quadbikes, the appointee will have good judgement to know when to get off and walk around the steeper country).
- Have proven stock handling skills, alongside; animal husbandry, observational qualities and record keeping
- Be competent in general farm work and machinery maintenance
- Have a full NZ drivers license and the right to work in NZ
Duties will include stock work (mustering, yard work, crutching, docking, weaning and drenching) and general farm maintenance (fencing, spraying etc). The successful applicant will be working alongside the owner, but will also require the ability to work alone as circumstances arise. There will be ongoing industry training if sought/required for the successful applicant.
Due to the level of experience required we cannot consider those with no experience or those looking for short term work only.
