FARM MANAGER - SHEEP MILKING, Oxford, Canterbury

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Farm Manager for our new sheep milking conversion this coming 2021/22 season, near Oxford Canterbury

 

The Farm

Milking platform of 55ha k-line irrigated with new herringbone conversion from a 12-year-old shed, and support land of 60ha. The platform will milk 600 ewes. A hybrid approach to lamb rearing with some lambs early weaned and some artificially reared on a system including De Lavel automatic feeders. As sheep milking is an emerging industry for Canterbury, we expect a high standard of presentation and pride in the farm and livestock.

 

The Applicant

Will be a keen communicator with a passion for high production pasture-based stock systems, working with the owners in developing, establishing, and running all aspects of the farm systems from breeding, lambing through to milking, lamb rearing and lamb finishing.

You will need to be technically savvy with meticulous record keeping, software such as Farm IQ will be central to the management of the farm. Liaising regularly with the owners you will be expected to manage the farm day to day along with associated staff for milking and lamb rearing. You will be a highly organized agricultural professional with a focus on quality and efficiency.

  • Have excellent record keeping
  • Technically savvy with farm software
  • Have strong pasture management and feed budgeting skills
  • Be keen to learn new skills
  • Be keen to work ‘with’ not ‘for’ owners
  • Be comfortable in embracing all aspects of health, safety, and compliance

 

May have,

 

  • Experience in sheep farming
  • Experience in dairy farming
  • Sheep or goat milking background
  • A farm technical history, or other relevant skills
  • A partner keen to be involved on farm
  • Experience managing farm staff
  • Financial acumen
  • Experience with K-line irrigation
  • Basic farm machinery servicing
  • A passion for animal nutrition
