Fencer/General Farm Hand

 

A unique position has arisen for a fencer/general farm hand to work on an idyllic farming island.

Ponui Island is a wildlife sanctuary and is situated in the Hauraki gulf. All 3 farms are privately owned. The southern farm is a 10 min boat trip across from Kawakawa Bay.

During the summer, the farm gets busy with campers as there is a Christian camp site on the main beach. Many other groups use the camp site throughout the year.

The 645 ha (355 effective) family farm runs 1200 breeding Romney ewes plus replacements and 300 mixed age dairy beef steers as well as grazing blocks on the mainland.

Role includes.

  • Fencing new and old (primary role)
  • Weed control.
  • General stock work
  • Animal husbandry
  • General maintenance

Skills required.

  • The ability to erect a stock proof farm fence unsupervised.
  • Ability to work alone or part of a team.
  • Farm machinery experience
  • A responsible approach to health and safety
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good common sense
  • Must be honest, reliable, non-smoker, polite and have good people skills (there will be some interaction with the campers)
  • Environmentally aware
  • Good sense of humour

Advantageous skills but not essential

  • Operation of a hand piece
  • Farming experience
  • 1 x Working dog
  • Boating experience.
  • Class 2 truck licence

4-bedroom house is available
