Job Description


Ararimu Downs is farming 1100ha across a range of owned and leased properties in the North Waikato/Franklin region. Running an intensive arable and finishing operation, the properties currently finish lambs, bulls and Wagyu steers and grow approx. 300ha of maize and grass silage each year. Ararimu Downs has grown rapidly over the last 18 months and they are now looking for a Shepherd General to join the team.


Our client seeks a Shepherd General who is keen to learn and grow their existing skill-base in this newly created role. The appointee will be involved in all day-to-day tasks including:

  • Stock work – yard work, weighing, animal health.
  • Mustering 
  • Pasture management, feed budgeting and rotational grazing.
  • General farm tasks such as fencing, weed control, water, tractor driving, and general farm maintenance.


Along with relevant experience, a passion for the industry and an interest in the continual development of the farming operation, the successful applicant will have:

  • 2 - 4 capable working dogs, with a good level of Stockmanship.
  • A good initiative.
  • Understanding of repairs and maintenance.
  • Understanding of H & S.
  • Their full driver’s licence.   


The owner/s will fully support the development of the appointee and help them to gain a good understanding of all farming systems and in-time further responsibility will be given.  A one bedroom cottage overlooking the farm and the Waikato River will be provided as part of a competitive remuneration package.
