Rangitapu Station is an 1100ha Sheep & Beef Station, located in the farming district of Omakere, Central Hawke’s Bay. The station is set amongst rolling hills with some steeper areas fenced off and planted in trees. The property has great infrastructure, with well-established sustainable farming policies and plans in place. A real feature is the 23 ha private lake that is used for irrigation and recreation. The family have nearly completed planting the 32ha surrounding the lake with native trees and shrubs to encourage the native bird life.
The farming system is a mix of breeding and finishing with 100ha of irrigation. Currently running 1800 Composite ewes, lambing 500 hoggets and finishing approximately 12,000 lambs each year. RFID Tags are used for breeding records (targeted to be consistently above 180% scanning). Rangitapu are recognised as a GAP (Global Animal Partnership) Farm with majority of the lambs being processed through Atkins Ranch and gaining a premium price.
The Stock Manager will have day-to-day management of the stock and also be responsible for the livestock management, pasture management and feed budgeting, animal health and rotational grazing plans. You will be responsible for a Shepherd General, who will work with you and help you carry out day-to-day tasks.
You will be involved in the monthly farm meetings with the Owners to discuss the farm strategy, budgeting, stock performance and financials on farm. You will also attend meetings with the farm advisor, vets and agronomists, where your input will be both expected and welcomed.
Rangitapu Station uses FarmIQ for stock records, as well as Farmax and you will have the opportunity to work alongside the Farm Advisor. The Owners genuinely want to support the successful candidate to succeed in this role.
