Job Description

Matukituki station is a sheep and beef farm located 30 minutes from Wanaka, in the Matukituki valley. Matukituki station is 5500ha in size and winters 18,000 stock units, and still has a 2-3 day autumn muster. This year we will winter 9000 crossbred ewes and 500 Hereford Angus breeding cows.

Due to our current head shepherd moving to another block we manage as a stock manager we are looking for a Head Shepherd to assist in the day-to-day running of the operation at Matukituki station.

Necessary skills include:

  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to work autonomously and take responsibility of the operation in the managers absence.
  • A strong team of working dogs and experience in hill country mustering is essential.
  • Proven communication skills with different team members and third parties.

In this roll you will:

  • Organizing shepherds day to day tasks.
  • Have Involvement in seasonal planning and stock management decisions.
  • Work closely with the manager to ensure best farming practices are achieved.
