Te Whangai is located in southern Hawkes Bay. This 1500 ha property winters 12,000 sheep and 400 cattle. An 80 ha finishing/fattening block is run in Takapau, as well as a 150 ha property north of Waipukurau which serves as a ram selling facility as well as some finishing. Te Whangai has been in the de Lautour family for three generations and has a proud history of developing highly sought-after Romney genetics.
We require a highly competent and motivated Manager with the ability and passion to manage a progressive sheep and beef farm with a highly regarded reputation for producing top Romney rams.
THE ROLE This is a unique opportunity that will suit a person with the ability to manage an operation with some scale and diversity, also be a leading member of our modern and progressive sheep genetics business. Ram breeding is an integral aspect of the Te Whangai farming operation with a reputation for breeding highly productive, worm resilient stock that has been gained by years of selective breeding and highly accurate recording of stud stock.
ABOUT YOU You will have the following:
• Competence in all aspects of running a modern farming business including health and safety, financial and feed budgeting, fertiliser programme, cropping and re-grassing and farm environmental planning • It would be an advantage if the applicant had experience with high performance systems under pivot irrigation • Experience with cloud-based software used for data collection and communication with staff and owners • 4-6 working dogs on hand and under good control • An excellent attitude • A strong work ethic • Good communication skills & ability to manage up to four permanent staff
