Rangitikei Limited Partnership is seeking a motivated shepherd for Makaraka Farm, a 700 hectare beef and dairy support farm.  Makaraka's current farming system incorporates beef finishing and dairy grazers and includes the use of Halter collar technology. Makaraka is one of four farm properties owned by Rangitikei Limited Partnership on the fertile Rangitikei river terraces, just south of Hunterville. The farm is split across all three river terraces and has a flat (56%) to medium hill (26%) contour with 139 hectares under irrigation, split between three center pivot irrigators. Experienced shepherd Drysdale is 2500 ha of medium to steep hill country 25km west of Hunterville run in conjunction with 400 ha finishing block at Halcombe. We run a very simple stock system targeting high performance sheep with clear cut stock performance targets and a dry stock beef operation purchasing 2yo Steers and finishing them as 3yo. Stock are mostly set stocked so there is minimal weekend work and no supplementary feeding. Work is a 50/50 split of horse and bike.   The successful applicant will require. 2+ years’ experience A good team of 4-6 good dogs under good command.
