Senior Shepherd General Location: Woodlands - Morton Mains, Southland
Anquilla Park Farms is a diverse and progressive farming business. We are currently running two operations, 370ha at our home block in Woodlands and 1000ha at our current Lease block near Clinton. Our home block consists of 2,000 Wairere Romney breeding ewes that go to a terminal ram, 1450 Hoggets, 100 1yr bulls, 200 2yr bulls and rear 500 brought-in calves during spring. Our lease block consists of 4,500 Wairere Romney breeding ewes that go to a maternal ram, 140 beef breeding cows, and 120 rising 2yr old beef bulls.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Shepherd General to join our sheep and beef farming operation based near Woodlands, Southland. Someone who is committed to life-long learning and who gets real satisfaction from seeing their team overcome challenges in innovative and collaborative ways.
You will be involved in a wide range of day-to-day farm duties, including General sheep and beef stock work Yard work with sheep and cattle Animal health monitoring and treatments Feeding, monitoring and finishing livestock Tractor and Machinery operation General farm repairs and maintenance Supporting seasonal operations including lambing, shearing, tailing, tractor work, etc. Working alongside the farm owners to achieve production targets
Skills required Have proven experience in sheep and beef farming and a genuine passion for farming Be confident in managing stock independently Have strong animal health and pasture management skills Experienced in an intensive lambing beat is an advantage Be reliable, motivated, and able to take responsibility Have experience driving tractors Have a good understanding of technology for record keeping - Nait, Online ASD, Resolution would be an advantage Hold a current Full NZ driver’s licence Willing to gain HT licences would be a bonus Good time management, skills, and take pride in your work Strong communication skills Respect for health and safety Small team of 2-3 capable dogs under good control Good sense of humour
