Stock Manager

We are seeking a person to fill a stock manager role on our family's privately owned sheep, beef, and deer farm located on the Western Bays Lake Taupo. Our farming model is made up 30% sheep,  25% beef,  and 45% deer.

The farm requiring a stock manager is a part of a wider farming operation for Motere Lands Ltd which in total runs approx. 32,000 SU over 2800 ha of effective farmland.

Motere Lands Ltd operates between Motere Station, Otaipuhi Station, and the Waihaha Vista. The Successful applicant would be required to predominantly work on Otaipuhi Station while working closely alongside our existing staff on the Waihaha Vista and regularly assist at Motere Station when needed. Otaipuhi has a wide range of stock classes but is currently running approximately 2000 hinds, 240 MA angus cows, 2000 Ewes, 200 Once bred heifers, all progeny is finished on farm.

The Property is centrally located between a range of different towns. It is 40 minutes from Taupo, 50 minutes from Turangi, 55 minutes to Tokoroa and 55 minutes to Taumaranuni. 25 minutes to the local primary/intermediate school.

We are open to hiring a couple.

The ideal applicant will have the following attributes:

- The ability to determine feed quality and what stock class is best suited to be in what paddock at the right time of year to meet market demand and our farming programme.

-  A range of experience across sheep and beef, good stock sense, knowledge of animal wellbeing, and passionate about animals.

-  Prior deer farming experience is preferred but we do welcome applicants who are eager to learn and that have no prior deer-handling experience.

-  Honest, sensible, and able to be responsible for their own time.

-  Strong communication skills.

-  A good team player and enjoys working with people.

-  The ability and disciplines to maintain fences including electric fences and water systems.

- Strong record keeping abilities

- Their own basic fencing tools and good working dogs. 

- Have NZ Drivers Licence (essential).

- Have NZ residency or valid NZ work visa. (essential).
