Key Responsibilities
As a Machinery Specialist based at our head office in Pongakawa, you’ll play a vital role in supporting orchard operations. Our machinery team operates Monday through Sunday, working approximately five 9-hour days each week, depending on weather conditions. In this role, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of tasks related to machinery operation, servicing, and support, helping ensure the orchard runs efficiently and safely.
Mowing, mulching, operating forklifts, truck driving, weed spraying and atom sprayers (for selected operators).
Transporting equipment and materials across orchards.
Perform daily pre-start checks, assist with preventative maintenance, and clean equipment during shutdowns
Helping the orchard team when needed in busy times.
Operate machinery safely and responsibly, with an understanding of its capabilities and performance efficiency, in accordance with the operator’s manual.
Carry out timely preventative maintenance to keep machinery running smoothly, prevent costly breakdowns, and support uninterrupted orchard operations.
Accurately recording data for operational records in a timely and tidy manner.
Prioritise and plan workload in conjunction with internal requests and planned schedules.
About you
You’re a proactive, hands-on team member with a genuine interest in orchard operations and machinery. You bring practical experience and a strong work ethic.
1–3 years’ experience operating farm vehicles such as tractors and related attachments
Kiwifruit orchard experience – an advantage but not essential
The initiative to understand orchard needs and respond accordingly
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues
A Forklift Operator Licence – preferred but not required
A willingness to work with agrichemicals (full training and PPE provided)
Your own vehicle, a current driver’s licence, and confidence driving a manual
