Job Description

We are on the lookout for someone with experience to join our Drystock team. This role is to support the manager in all things stock, grazing, and farm maintenance.

This is a new role as a result of our Drystock operation expanding.

Woodstock Farming is based on the North Side of the Waimakariri Gorge, 15 minutes from Oxford.  We operate a large dairy and beef farm comprising of 3,000 Dairy Cows and 350 beef cows, mainly Angus with some dairy beef, building up to calving 600 beef cows annually. The Drystock unit is responsible for taking on 750 weaned heifer calves and growing them out to deliver back to dairies as in calf 2 year olds, 220 weaned jersey bull calves taken through to 15 month olds, 100 weaned dairy beef calves taken through to finishing, dairy carry over cows along with all things beef where season dependant we finish all stock. The team also assists with calf rearing on an as needed basis during the peak of calving.

The Drystock unit is 900ha effective of flat and terraced land including 72ha pivot irrigation plus c.1800ha hill block comprising of medium-steep grazing land to very steep tussock and shingle scree topography with native beech and manuka in between.

The role requires the following skills that ideally the candidate has experience and building confidence in:

Stock work

Permanent and Temporary fencing

Animal Health

Water Reticulation

Recording

Setting Health and Safety Example

Tractor Operating

General farm work

 

More importantly we are after someone that can join our team that shows a willingness to learn, has a sense of humour, is honest and has integrity, can work well with others as well as on their own.

With the bulk of the work being dairy stock work on 2 wheelers dogs are not required.
