Stock Manager/ 2IC – Sheep & Beef Farm
📍 Wharekopae District, Gisborne
Mutuera Station is a 1,000 ha hill country sheep and beef farm located in the Wharekopae district of Gisborne. We are seeking a keen, motivated, and ambitious Stock Manager to oversee the day-to-day livestock operations of the business.
The property runs approximately 9,500 stock units, consisting of Romney ewes, traditional breeding cows, and a decent cattle trading operation. The farm itself consists of medium hill country and runs to a maximun height of 700m. A tidy three-bedroom home is included as part of the package. The Rere school bus comes within 300m of the front gate. Remuneration will reflect the successful applicant’s experience and skill level.
The Role
This position involves responsibility for the daily management of livestock, working closely with the owner to plan and implement farming operations.
Key Responsibilities

Daily livestock management and planning stock rotations with the owner

Animal health and performance management
-
Animal handling, including drenching, vaccinating, weighing, and recording

Feed management and monitoring pasture performance

Accurate record keeping

Fence maintenance and general farm maintenance

Overseeing and supporting the junior shepherd when required
About You
The successful applicant will be:
-
A competent stockperson with patience and six well-trained working dogs

Knowledgeable in animal health, feed management, and record keeping

Confident operating ATV vehicles

Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently while contributing to a team

A good communicator with strong attention to detail
Requirements

Full NZ driver’s licence

Must be a NZ citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid NZ work visa
