Job Description

We are seeking a capable and motivated shepherd to join our team on a large-scale sheep and beef farming operation in the Gisborne region. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in challenging hill country, takes pride in good stockmanship, and values being part of a reliable, hardworking team. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently are essential.

About the Farm: 

The farm spans approximately 1,200 hectares of steep Gisborne hill country. The operation runs a sheep and beef breeding and finishing system, with the majority of stock finished on-farm.
The property is well-established, efficiently run, and focused on producing quality stock while maintaining high standards of animal welfare and land stewardship.

What we are looking for: 

We are looking for someone who brings both skill and the right attitude to the role, including:

  • Minimum 2 years’ shepherding experience

  • Four well-trained, broken-in dogs, under good command

  • High level of stockmanship and animal handling skills

  • Competent and confident working with horses

  • Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work unsupervised

  • A good team player with a positive attitude toward farm life
