About us:
Fairfield is a 500Ha family-owned farm located 20mins from Gisborne. The property has well developed infrastructure, fencing systems and farm tracks. The locality is ideal for partners wanting to work in or around Gisborne, with a school bus outside the gate to the local primary school 5mins down the road.
Fairfield is a diversified agricultural business which includes stock fattening and finishing, cropping and citrus production. The farm winters between 4000 - 5000 trade lambs and approx 110 Steers.(increasing to 210 over summer)
This is a great opportunity for someone to learn about the finer details of lamb finishing and steer fattening as all stock are finished on farm.
About the ROLE:
Your role:
- Hands on role managing the day-to-day running of the sheep and beef side of the business
-Co-ordinating sales and purchases of stock
-Being responsible for Animal Health, with early identification of any health issues
- Liveweight monitoring and management
-Stock handling (mustering/shifts, weighing, drafting, drenching and crutching)
-Pasture management
-Keeping accurate records and regular communication with owners
-General farm maintenance, fencing and weed/ pest management
-Assisting with grassing down of flats
This position comes with a reasonably new 3-bedroom home and carshed. A competitive renumeration is offered based on experience and skills.
About you:
What we are looking for:
-someone who has a passion for finishing stock
-3-4 working dogs under good command
-High standards of animal health and welfare
-Ability to manage pasture and feed demands
-Competent in farm maintenance (fencing, weed control etc)
-Capable of working independently and as part of a small team
- Physically fit, self-motivated, reliable, honest, and proactive.
-Experience at head Shepherd level and above
- Experience with operating tractors and machinery an advantage but not essential
-Current full NZ drivers license
-NZ Residency
