Stock Manager - Twin Oaks Angus

Job Description

Twin Oaks Angus is a 860ha sheep and beef hill country property located in Ta Akau, West Waikato. Only a 1-hour drive from Hamilton, 35 minutes from Raglan and 40 minutes from Huntly.

Our clients seek an experienced stock manager to work alongside the farm owners supporting the day-to-day management of all stock which includes 600 ewes, trade lambs, 400 stud cows along with replacements and all bulls that are sold through two on-farm sales each year. This role will suit someone who has a passion for animals and has a practical hands-on approach to management and a keen interest in stud stock and all that involves.

The successful applicant will have the following key attributes –

  • The ability to complete farm tasks to a high standard that aligns with the farm plan in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Proven previous experience in the management of sheep and cattle along with the knowledge required to manage feeding levels both pasture & supplement and adjust were necessary in accordance with farm policy and target stock condition.
  • A good understanding & knowledge of animal health, and routine tasks relating to this i.e. drenching, vaccinating etc.
  • Has the ability to maintain accurate farm records and an understanding of how this contributes to stock performance.
  • A well-rounded understanding of health and safety and the ability to demonstrate the importance of this in a working farm environment.
  • The knowledge and skills to carry out required repairs and maintenance on vehicles, machinery, fencing, water reticulation etc.
  • Establish a good working relationship with the farm owners to make good management decisions that will maintain productivity and animal performance.
  • Demonstrate leadership, reliability, teamwork, problem solving and most importantly be able to communicate any changes or issues arising in a timely manner to the farm owner.
  • A high level of physical fitness along with a team of well-trained dogs (4-5). Horses by negotiation.
  • Current full NZ driver licence.
  • The right attitude towards farm performance, presentation, and relationships with all involved.
