Job Description
WELCOME : We are looking for a person or preferably a couple to assist us in the running of our 450Ha effective lease farm at Rotoiti, near Rotorua. The applicant will be working on there own 90% of the time, with an opportunity for their partner to have casual work on the farm also. This position could suit a shepherd wanting to step up to the next level with possible promotion to full management in the future. The location is approximately 25-30 mins from CBD Rotorua. The farm presently runs 1600 high performing ewes with replacements grazed off the property, approximately 450 R1 dairy grazers, plus 100 beef cows. All weaners are sold at the weaner fair in March.
The successful applicant MUST HAVE prior farm experience, be reliable, have good communication skills, be self motivated (capable of working on their own and with others), with an awesome work ethic.
Good communication is essential as they will need to liase regularly with the employer and other workers.
HOUSE:
There is a tidy small 3 bedroom lockwood home on the farm, with a heat pump, new double burner fire installed and single lock up garage.
SCHOOL:
Rotoiti School. This is a primary school that goes up to Year 8 only 20mins away.
RENUMERATION:
Package will reflect on skills based on experience to be discussed.
JOB ENTAILS:
Pasture management, moving mobs daily (break feeding); Water maintenance and checking daily; Stock management (drenching, weighing stock, yard work etc); General farm maintenance and upkeep of house and section; Fencing (overlooking new and repairs); weed control; tractor driving where necessary (experience essential); Monthly farm meetings with the employer are essential; stock recs supplied by you monthly; liaising with grazers owners; and work safe responsible ( making sure everyone has been identified and inducted coming onto the farm).
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Confident with riding either a 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler bike or both; Experience with tractor driving; Current drivers licence ( will need to be police checked); Must have NZ residency or valid NZ work visa. WE WILL NOT consider people from overseas with no work visa; Must have at least 3 or 4 working dogs capable of sheep and cattle work;
