This is a rare opportunity to step into a key role on a large-scale, forward-thinking station with a genuine point of difference.

WHERE

Moeangiangi Station is a 3,609ha coastal property located 60km north of Napier, running a commercial sheep and beef breeding and finishing operation.

Owned by the Joan Fernie Charitable Trust, the station is part of a wider farming business committed to performance, innovation, and giving back to the communities it serves, with profits distributed to support charitable causes.

Moeangiangi will also be home to a new cadet training programme, continuing a proud legacy of developing future leaders in the sheep and beef industry. Significant investment is underway, including new cadet facilities, infrastructure upgrades, and staff housing.

THE ROLE

As Senior Shepherd, you’ll be a key member of the on-farm team, working closely with the Moeangiangi team to deliver day-to-day livestock operations and support the development of cadets.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong stockmanship, initiative, and a high standard of work across all aspects of the farm.

You’ll be involved in all areas of stock work, animal health, feed planning, and pasture management, while helping maintain a strong culture of safety and professionalism on farm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Day-to-day livestock management across sheep and beef operations
  • Animal health treatments, recording, and monitoring performance
  • Feed allocation and pasture management
  • Mustering and stock movement across varied terrain
  • Maintaining a high-performing team of working dogs
  • Supporting and mentoring cadets through practical on-farm learning
  • General farm maintenance including fencing and water systems
  • Contributing to a positive, team-focused and safety-first culture

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience in a Senior Shepherd or experienced Shepherd role
  • Strong stockmanship and pride in your work
  • Competent with animal health and pasture management
  • Confident working in hill country and coastal environments
  • A capable dog handler with a reliable team of working dogs
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Good communication skills and willingness to support others
  • Genuine interest in helping develop young people entering the industry
  • Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence
