Shepherd General – Sheep & Beef Breeding / Finishing
Richdale Farm.
We are looking for a Shepherd General to join our family-owned business. The property is 660ha, located at Conical Hill, 25 minutes north of Gore and 10 minutes south of Tapanui.
The farm ranges from river flats to steep tussock country and winters:
5,000 high-performing MA ewes
1,250 hogget replacements ( half mated )
80 Angus breeding cows
100 R1 and R2 cattle
The Role
The main responsibilities include:
Stock work
Tractor work including mowing, cultivation and feeding out.
General farm maintenance including fencing etc
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A positive attitude and strong work ethic
2–3 years’ farming experience
2–4 working dogs under good command
Good stock sense and confidence working with both sheep and cattle
Physical fitness and willingness to work hard
Confidence operating modern side-by-sides, tractors, and machinery
Ability to work both independently and within a small team
Strong listening and problem-solving skills
Pride in their work and presentation
You will be working alongside the farm owner, who will support your development and help maintain a collaborative and enjoyable working environment.
