Fixed-Term Seasonal Shepherd

Koanui Polled Herefords is looking for a capable seasonal shepherd to help during the busy calving, lambing, and mating period from July to October. You will be based at Pukekura Station.

About the Role

Based at Pukekura Station on Middle Road, Poukawa, just 20 minutes from Havelock North, this fixed-term role offers the chance to gain hands-on experience during a busy and rewarding season.

·         Calving 250 two-year-old registered Hereford heifers

·         Lambing 1,400 easy-care ewes

·         Supporting the team through a high-demand period from July to October

Benefits

·         $25–$35 per hour pay rate, depending on experience

·         On-farm accommodation is available with power included

·         Five meals per week provided for the successful applicant

·         $50 per month phone allowance.

Who this Role would suit

We’re looking for an enthusiastic person who is keen to build experience with calving, lambing, and stock work on one of New Zealand’s leading Hereford stud farms.

·         A positive can-do attitude and adaptability to work

·         Keen to learn more about working in a dynamic farming system and caring for livestock

·         Space for dogs available if you have them. Note that dogs are not essential for this role.

Requirements

·         Some prior sheep and cattle experience is essential

·         Prior lambing or calving experience would be an advantage

·         A full driver licence is essential

·         Confidence riding a two-wheel motorbike and ATV is essential, as Pukekura includes some steep country

·         Tractor experience would be an advantage

·         Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
