SHEPHERD – ALPHA BURN STATION

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and capable Shepherd to join our team at Alpha Burn Station.

Located 10 minutes West of  Wānaka in the heart of New Zealand’s high country, Alpha Burn Station is a family owned large-scale farming operation running Romney sheep, Hereford and Angus beef cattle, and Red deer across diverse and challenging terrain. We pride ourselves on strong stockmanship, high animal welfare standards, and a positive team culture.

The Role
Working alongside the Owner and Head Shepherd, you will be involved in all aspects of day-to-day station operations, including:

  • Sheep, cattle, and deer stock work
  • Mustering with dogs in high-country conditions
  • Animal health and husbandry
  • Fencing and general station maintenance
  • Seasonal farming activities including lambing, calving, and weaning
  • Tractor work

The Successful Applicant Will Have:

  • A genuine passion for livestock farming and working in the outdoors
  • Good stock sense and animal husbandry skills
  • At least 2–3 working dogs, with a commitment to developing them further
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A current driver’s licence
