THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a rare opportunity to step into key roles on a large-scale, forward-thinking station with a genuine point of difference.
WHERE
Moeangiangi Station is a 3,609ha coastal property located 60km north of Napier, running a commercial sheep and beef breeding and finishing operation.
Owned by the Joan Fernie Charitable Trust, the station is part of a wider farming business committed to performance, innovation, and giving back - distributing profits to charitable causes across New Zealand.
Moeangiangi will also be home to a new cadet training programme, continuing a proud legacy of developing future leaders in the sheep and beef industry. Significant investment is underway, including new cadet facilities, infrastructure upgrades, and staff housing.
THE ROLES
Moeangiangi Station Cadet Training Trust is seeking a motivated and caring couple to join our team as Fencer/General & Station Cook, starting dates are negotiable ideally prior to December 2026. These are two separate paid roles packaged together to suit a live in couple on the station.
This is a unique opportunity to become part of an exciting new cadet training programme that combines practical farming experience with formal agricultural education. Beginning in 2027 with five cadets and growing to ten cadets by 2028, we are creating an environment where young people can learn, thrive, and develop into capable and confident members of the agricultural industry.
FENCER/GENERAL
We are seeking an experienced Fencer with the skills and ability to manage a range of infrastructure and projects. Involved in this will be an element of teaching to the cadets. You will play a vital role across the station with a wide range of work and autonomy.
Responsibilities include:
· All areas of asset management, Fencing, Yards, Water Reticulation etc.
· Project and infrastructure planning
· A high standard and quality of work
· General repairs and upkeep of station facilities
· Assisting with seasonal farm stock work as required
· Helping foster a positive, supportive culture across the station
· Maintaining cadet standards, expectations and station rules
· Ensuring work output and quality meet the expectations
· Creating and promoting a strong culture of health and safety for both staff and cadets
· Maintaining open communication between the Manager, staff and cadets
· Assisting with cadet training and keeping the Manager informed of cadet progress, achievements and any concerns
· Hosting interested groups and assisting with public visits when required
· Helping ensure the property is always presented to a high standard
· Maintaining professionalism and representing Moeangiangi positively in public settings
· Assisting with Orientation Days, Parents’ BBQs, Field Days and Graduation events
· Being available to work weekends when required during busy periods in the farming year
We are looking for someone who has a broad range of skills with high standards and values passing on their knowledge to the next generation.
STATION COOK
As our Station Cook, you will be the heart of the new purpose built kitchen inside the cadet complex, preparing nutritious and wholesome meals that keep our cadets fuelled for busy days on the farm.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for cadets and staff as required Monday-Friday and occasional weekends when assisting with events or farm operations
· Planning menus and purchasing groceries within budget
· Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety
· Helping create a welcoming, family-style environment in the dining area and hostel
· Upholding clear standards and expectations within the dining area and hostel
· Being available to cadets while they are on station and providing support when required
· Spending time with prospective cadets and their families during Orientation Days
· Assisting with special events including Orientation Days, Parents’ BBQs, Field Days and Graduation
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, takes pride in creating a warm and welcoming home environment, and enjoys working alongside young people.
