Stock Manager

Job Description

This family-owned sheep and beef business is based in Te Akau, Waikato. The operation has 410 hectares of rolling to steep country and runs 1000 breeding ewes and 300 hoggets. We rear 300 bull calves through the autumn and spring, trade beef cattle, and service bulls. 

We are looking for a Stock Manager who is happy to work independently but when needed, work alongside other staff members during the busy times of the year. 

Our district offers a rural school, playcentre, hunting opportunities, and a great community feel with many events held through the year.

 

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

Moving and shifting stock, including using Halter, along with general stock observation.

General yard work

All seasonal farm work including shearing, lambing, docking etc

Assisting with calf rearing in the Autumn and Spring

Fencing, maintaining water pipes and troughs.

Operating tractors and farm machinery on hill country

Basic machinery repairs and general maintenance of on-farm equipment as necessary.

Other reasonable general farm duties as/when required.

 

Qualities

Good communication, motivated, honest and reliable.

Have a capable team of dogs

Be able to follow instructions, work independently, take on responsibility, problem solver, initiative, calm manner with stock.

Work safely and effectively in the workplace.

Have excellent stockman ship skills and record keeping

Effective use of technology - Halter

 

Applicants must have

NZ residency or a valid New Zealand visa

A proven work history in Sheep and Beef Farming

A current full New Zealand driver's licence
