Stock Manager

Walker Stock Co contract manages APG’s Tarras properties. We are seeking an exceptional Stock Manager to join our leadership team. 

This is an opportunity to lead people, influence the future of a progressive farming business and build a career within one of New Zealand's most diverse pastoral farming groups.

Based in Tarras, 25 minutes from both Wanaka and Cromwell, Walker Stock Co combines Lindis Crossing Station and Marylands into one, 1300 hectare intensive finishing operation, with 950 hectares irrigated. Operating with the support of APG, we annually produce approx. 35,000 stock units of crossbred lambs and Angus cattle. 

You will lead a team of four and will be responsible for driving livestock performance, developing people and maintaining the high standards of a leading finishing operation. 

We're looking for someone who naturally takes ownership, enjoys leading from the front and takes genuine pride in their work. You'll help create a positive, high-performing culture where people are supported, challenged and encouraged to continually improve. You will need an eye for detail, but also be able to see the big picture, identifying opportunities for growth, expansion and collaboration. 

We're looking for someone who:
• Is a proven leader who enjoys developing people and building strong team culture.

• Has a proven record of executing at a high capacity.
• Leads by example and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.
• Takes ownership and follows tasks through to completion.
• Is passionate about livestock performance, animal welfare and feed management.
• Is proactive, self-motivated and continually looking for better ways of doing things.
• Has strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
• Is confident using technology and data to support decision making.
• Has experience with intensive sheep and beef systems (pivot irrigation and fodder beet experience would be advantageous).
• Has a capable team of working dogs.
