Job Description

Looking for that next step in your farming career?

Do you want to work amidst a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative hill country farming operation?

Are you fit, energetic, enthusiastic with a willingness to grow. Can you work un-assisted but also value working as part of a team?

Richard and Becks Tosswill, along with their growing family are looking for an employee with 2-3 year’s experience to help run Te Awaawa alongside Richard and are keen to further their career within the sheep and beef sector.

Te Awaawa Farm is located in the Wairarapa Valley, and positioned right in the heart of the Gladstone rural community, 25 minutes east of Masterton. The local primary school is only a stone’s throw away, as is the sports club complex, and our famous local ‘ The Gladdy’.

In 2018 we were awarded Supreme winner of the Greater Wellington Ballance Farm environment awards and in 2020 won the Wairarapa Sheep & Beef Farm Business of the year. We also ran an innovation project on promoting legumes on uncultivatable hill country for 4 years and are still actively trying new activities to improve our pasture quality. Halter technology has been introduced on farm for the past 18 months with 200 cattle wearing collars now. Experience with this would be great, but not essential. An extensive laneway system, good subdivision, 2 sets of satellite yards, covered yards, feedlot and new cattle yards make stock management simple and efficient.

We are looking for someone who has a desire to learn and grow within the role and a willingness to gain new skills to further your development within the industry.

Applicants will need to have 3-4 working dogs, be safety conscious, show good initiative, able to follow instructions, be punctual and be considerate of both stock and machinery. Work involved will include; mustering, yard work, maintenance and other general farm work. A knowledge of basic weighing systems would be beneficial.

We have a recently painted, cozy, 3 bedroom cottage with open plan living available for the successful applicant.

This role is only open to NZ residents or someone holding a valid NZ work visa.
