EXPERIENCED SHEPHERD

Mangakuri Station is looking for an experienced shepherd to join the team. 

A BIT ABOUT MANGAKURI STATION

Mangakuri is a coastal 1,300ha, 1,000ha effective, breeding and trading operation running 8,000su consisting of Romney sheep and Angus cattle.

Located at Mangakuri Beach, in Central Hawkes Bay, approximately 40 minutes from Waipawa and 50 minutes from Hastings.  The Station is owned by the Williams Charitable Trust with all profits donated to local charities and reinvested back into the Station. 
 

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Shepherd you will assist with the day-to-day operations on the Station including stock management, animal health, general farm maintenance and decision making.  Your role will also include recording into FarmIQ and operating Halter. 

The Station is focused on improving and driving production on the farm.  You will support the farm manager in maximising the farm’s performance, while developing and growing your own personal skill set. 
 

A BIT ABOUT YOU

Along with a minimum of two years relevant agricultural experience and a passion for the sheep and beef industry, the successful applicant will be competent in the following areas: 

·        Good level of stockmanship skills

·        Understand and implement animal health

·        Pasture management and feed budgeting skills

·        Ideally have a strong team of 4-5 working dogs, under good control

·        Broad range of general farm maintenance skills

·        Health and safety focused

·        Computer literate and willingness to learn and able to adapt to modern technology

·        Excellent communication skills and accurate record keeping

·        Ability to work independently and unsupervised

·        Fit and self-motivated, with great sense of humour

This position offers a great opportunity for someone who is wanting to learn and advance their farming skills. Off farm training is also on offer.  As part of the competitive remuneration package there is a warm and sunny three-bedroom house with sleep out just a couple of minutes from Mangakuri Beach. 

Mangakuri Beach offers excellent swimming, diving and fishing recreational opportunities.  Local schooling, including playgroup, is offered in Elsthorpe with a school bus from the gate.
